Scenario 1
- You have moved to Ohio from out of State. You own the vehicle free and clear of any liens and it is
titled in your name only. You will need the following:
- Original Out of State Title.
- Photo identification showing residency. *NOTE: If you do not currently have an Ohio's Driver License or Photo ID, you must provide proof of
residency (i.e. utility bill, insurance bill, bank statement).
- Out of state vehicle inspection.
- Fees payable by cash, certified check, or money order payable to Trumbull County Clerk of Courts.
- Odometer statement
- Title application.
Scenario 2
- You have moved from out of state. The title is in more that one name and you are making payments to a
lender. You will need the following:
- Original out of state title*.
- A copy of your Loan papers*.
- Anyone whose name is on the title will need to be present. If everyone is not available, a notarized
power of attorney can be used.
- Photo identification showing residency. *NOTE: If you do not currently have an Ohio's Driver License or Photo ID, you must provide proof of
residency (i.e. utility bill, insurance bill, bank statement).
- Out of State Vehicle Inspection.
- Fees payable by cash, certified check or money order payable to Trumbull County Clerk of Courts.
- Odometer statement
- Title application.
Scenario 3
- You have moved here from out of State. You have a Leased Vehicle.
You will need the following:
- Original out of state title in the Lease Company’s name*.
- Copy of Loan papers, if applicable*.
- Two notarized power of attorney from leasing company allowing you to sign for the title and registration.
- Photo identification showing residency. *NOTE: If you do not currently have an Ohio's Driver License or Photo ID, you must provide proof of
residency (i.e. utility bill, insurance bill, bank statement).
- Out of state vehicle inspection.
- Fees payable by cash, certified check, or money order payable to Trumbull County Clerk of Courts.
- Title Application.
- Odometer statement.
- Tax exemption numbers from the leasing company, either a leasing dealer permit (LD#) or a 99 tax exemption number.
- Name and address of the previous owner.
- Note: If the leasing company’s address is in Ohio, the title must be processed in
the county of the leasing company.
Scenario 4
- You have purchased a vehicle from an individual who lives in Ohio. You will need the following:
- The original Ohio Title with the top half of the back filled out by the seller and notarized.
- If the
title is a gold title and the vehicle is less than ten years old you will need a FEDERAL ODOMETER STATEMENT with the seller’s portion completed.
- Photo identification showing residency. *NOTE: If you do not currently have an Ohio's Driver License or Photo ID, you must provide proof of
residency (i.e. utility bill, insurance bill, bank statement).
- Fees and taxes payable by cash, certified check or money order payable to Trumbull County Clerk of Courts.
- If you have borrowed money to purchase the vehicle you will need the security agreement*.
- Title application.
Scenario 5
- You have purchased a vehicle from an individual in another state. You will need the following:
- The original title from the seller's state. The assignment must be complete and if the title
document has a space for a Notary Public, it must be notarized.
- Out of State vehicle inspection.
- Photo identification showing residency. *NOTE: If you do not currently have an Ohio's Driver License or Photo ID, you must provide proof of
residency (i.e. utility bill, insurance bill, bank statement).
- Security agreement if applicable*.
- Fees and taxes payable by cash, certified check or money order payable to Trumbull County Clerk of
Courts.
- Odometer statement if not shown on the title.
- Title application.
Scenario 6
- You have purchased a new vehicle from an out of state dealer. You will need the following:
- Manufacturer’s certificate of origin (MCO) from the Dealer.
- An original bill of sale marked paid in full (unless recording a lien).
- Federal Odometer Statement.
- Security Agreement if applicable*.
- Photo identification showing residency. *NOTE: If you do not currently have an Ohio's Driver License or Photo ID, you must provide proof of
residency (i.e. utility bill, insurance bill, bank statement).
- Fees and taxes payable by cash, certified check or money payable to Trumbull County Clerk of Courts.
- Title application.
Scenario 7
- You have purchased a used vehicle from a dealer in another state. You will need the following:
- The out of state title signed over to you from the dealer where you purchased the vehicle.
- An original bill of sale.
- Federal odometer statement (if vehicle is less than 10 years old).
- Security Agreement if applicable*.
- Out of state vehicle inspection.
- Photo identification showing residency. *NOTE: If you do not currently have an Ohio's Driver License or Photo ID, you must provide proof of
residency (i.e. utility bill, insurance bill, bank statement).
- Fees and taxes payable by cash, certified check or money order payable to Trumbull County Clerk of
Courts.
- Odometer statement.
- Title application.
- *If you do not have the original title or the proper loan papers in your possession, contact
the Title Department with your lienholder or leasing company’s name, address, and account number. A form requesting the necessary
documents will be completed.
